Data Train offers three different tracks, each being catered towards a different skill set.
Starter Track
The Starter Track will get you started in data literacy and help you build essential skills for data-heavy research across disciplines.
This overview lecture series starts each year in January and covers a range of topics, including:
- Research data management basics
- Introduction to data science concepts
- Statistical thinking
- Ethical, legal and social aspects of data handling
- Critical considerations to data analysis, use, and privacy
Each lecture will be led by data experts from the Data Train network and will cover data-related topics across various disciplines, ideal for anyone new to research data management and data science.
Schedule: January thru June every year
Operator Track 'Data Steward'
This track focuses on effective data management – a core skill for your research, studies and preparing data for machine learning and AI methods.
It features hands-on beginner’s workshops covering
- various programming languages
- data management tools
- data preparation techniques
Each workshop will be led by data experts from the Data Train network and covers data-related topics relevant to all disciplines and ideal for everyone new to research data management and data science.
Schedule: July thru December every odd year
Operator Track 'Data Scientist'
The Operator Track 'Data Scientist' focuses on how data are prepared, processed, analyzed, and transformed into results.
The track will start in July 2027 and will cover a range of topics, including:
- Explorative data analysis with Python, Matlab and R for beginners
- Data visualization and visual analytics
- Machine learning and deep learning methods
- Quantitative analysis and statistics
Each workshop will be led by data experts and will provide hands-on training, real-world data examples from various disciplines, and opportunities for networking with a supportive community.
