Journalist in Residence Fellowship

GOAL

The residency promotes independent, data-based journalism and strengthens the interface between data science, journalism and society. The focus is on the transfer of data journalism skills, in particular media-appropriate science communication - i.e. the comprehensible, relevant and appealing presentation of scientific findings for the public.

You will share your expertise with researchers through DataNord's event formats and networks (e.g. in the form of a data story about your research project or a skills transfer workshop) to improve the communication of scientific results.

The residency offers journalists the opportunity to deepen their own data-driven research projects. There is no expectation that fellows will report on the work of the data competence center. Rather, the goal is to independently share best practices in science communication, use of available expertise, event formats and scientific networks.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!

The residency is aimed at staff and freelance data journalists who work with data analytics, open data or algorithmic decision-making processes, have knowledge of best practices in science communication and are looking for interdisciplinary exchange with researchers.

DURATION & FUNDING

The stay lasts up to 3 months (can be planned individually until the end of 2025). Ideally, it will include the Research Data Day event on June 11, 2025. Financial support of up to 3,000 euros (for accommodation and travel expenses; a per diem allowance may be granted from the remaining amount, if applicable) will be provided.

If you are coming to Bremen from abroad or from another city, the Welcome Center of the U Bremen Research Alliance will be happy to assist you. You can also use the Welcome Guide.
