Bremen is an outstanding location for science. It represents the successful cooperation between a research university and a large number of non-university research institutions. To intensify and strategically strengthen this cooperation network, the University of Bremen and twelve federal and state-financed non-university research institutes from all German science organizations are working together in the “U Bremen Research Alliance”. Since April 2016, the "U Bremen Research Alliance" thereby represents the core area of science in Bremen.
A strong university promotes strong non-university research institutions, and strong non-university research institutions stimulate university development. The U Bremen Research Alliance follows this principle. It is a fractal image of the German research landscape and an example of a cooperation network between universities and non-university research institutions in the German science system. In order to strengthen cooperative and future-oriented science, the members jointly pursue the creation of a coordinated space for innovation, infrastructure and research.
Intensive cooperation with short distances: global questions, answers from Bremen
The alliance is characterized by a synergetic and close cooperation. Due to the multilateral strategic direction and the strengthening of research cooperation, it stands for large cross-institutional research topics. Cooperative promotion of young researchers, joint personnel development programs, research infrastructures used across the board and coordinated research agendas as well as the rapid implementation of scientific ideas are forming the core of the U Bremen Research Alliance.
