In 2024, the U Bremen Research Alliance (UBRA) offers once again the central training programme Data Train as an additional offer for doctoral students in order to meet the strong demand - in science, business and society - for skills in research data management and data science. Since 2023, Data Train is part of Data Nord, the interdisciplinary data competence centre for the Bremen region. Data Train's further development is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and financed by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.
From January to May 2024, the Data Train Starter Track will provide general and in-depth knowledge on various topics related to data literacy, research data management and data science. The workshops are held in English and participation is possible both on site and online. Participation is free of charge. Because of its hybrid form, this track is open to scientists of all career levels as well as students and academic support staff, who want to enter research data management and data science. Scientists outside the member institutions of the U Bremen Research Alliance and interested individuals from business and society organisations can also register.
On January 17, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the U Bremen Research Alliance invites to the Data Train Kick-off 2024 at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research IFAM. The event will provide information about the Data Train program, its extent, its concept and its contribution to the development of the "National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)". The Bremen data competence center DataNord will also be presented. The data story "Beautiful Insights - The art and science of data visualisation" by Moritz Stefaner, an expert in data visualization, will round off the kick-off followed by a get-together.
The Operator Track "Data Steward" is offered from June to December 2024 and provides essential skills for the efficient handling of data in accordance with the "FAIR Data Principles". The track includes practical workshops on programming languages, data management plans, reproducibility, data preparation, data processing and database skills. Registration for the Operator Track "Data Steward" opens April 2024.
"We are delighted to be launching the third round of Data Train in 2024 and to be able to further expand the program in our new data competence center Data Nord",
says Professor Iris Pigeot, one of the three speakers of the UBRA lead project "Research Data Management and Data Science" and Director of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS.
