The U Bremen Research Alliance was represented with a joint booth. Visitors were able to discover the diversity of Bremen’s cutting-edge research through exhibits, hands-on activities, and conversations with researchers. Interest in the booth was high, and the atmosphere was open and lively. Many children also used the Discovery Pass to explore science in a playful way.
Participating institutions included the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Leibniz Institute for Materials Engineering – IWT, the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI-MM), the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS, the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS, the German Maritime Museum Bremerhaven (DSM), and DataNord – Interdisciplinary Data Competence Center for the Bremen Region.

The booth covered topics ranging from marine and materials research to prevention, digital medicine, robotics, artificial intelligence, and data literacy. Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) offered insights into marine research and scientific diving. The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology demonstrated how researchers use an eDNA filtration device to detect genetic traces of marine organisms in water samples. Leibniz-Institute for Materials Engineering - IWT presented workpieces and components from current research projects, showing how modern materials research can make metals stronger, more durable, and more sustainable.
The German Maritime Museum used objects, hands-on activities, and a lecture to present the research project REMARCO, which focuses on ammunition from the Second World War that remains in the sea. BIPS introduced prevention research as well as the projects Guardians of the Hedgehog and NFDI4Health — from citizen science for hedgehog conservation and the One Health approach to the improved use of health data.
At the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS, visitors could use a scaled-down model of an MRI scanner to understand how modern medical imaging works. DFKI Bremen presented videos from its research areas Robotics Innovation Center and Cyber-Physical Systems — from autonomous robots for space and underwater research to secure, connected technical systems for everyday life and industry. DataNord provided information on training, consulting, and networks related to data literacy in research.
The joint booth showed how important it is to make science accessible to a broad audience. Children, prospective students, and the interested public were able to experience research from Bremen from different perspectives — vividly, clearly, and in direct conversation with researchers.
