For the third time, the Bremen “Research Data Day” took place, organized by the U Bremen Research Alliance as part of the interdisciplinary Bremen Data Competence Center DataNord. The event, held under the theme “FAIR future skills,” offered participants the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts and gain practical skills in managing research data. More than 140 interested individuals attended the workshops and visited the Bremen data initiatives at the DataNord Data Bar and the exhibition booths on the University of Bremen campus. The evening event at the Bremen Parliament titled "Using Data Together: FAIR Solutions for a Better Society" was also very well attended, with over 160 registrations, and marked the public conclusion of a successful day that attracted more than 300 participants in total.

Prof. Dr. Sonja Schimmler, Visiting Professor for research data infrastructure at Technische Universität Berlin and research group leader at Fraunhofer FOKUS, provided insights into the necessary steps to improve data infrastructures and strengthen data literacy: Intensify collaboration (through infrastructure, data, offers, new teaching formats), create a shared knowledge base (z.B. Open Educational Resources) as well as work on common standards.

Despite differing perspectives on data and its use, the panel participants agreed on one thing: strong data literacy is essential for successful collaboration - whether in research or in society. With this awareness, and through joint efforts, discussions, and cooperation, existing barriers to digitalization can be overcome.
